kind of a different feel for my work, this piece was another experiment towards the style I want to use on my GN, part animated/part painted. I'm digging this look so far.
Working on other design elements now that I'm finished with this, trying to nail down a better version of the main characters "sword", going to be doing some more environment studies for the various locations in the script etc....
It's not traditional comic book looking art I know, but I'm kind of trying to steer away from that anyways I think.
The hybrid painted/cell shaded look is very eye-catching, and definitely solves focal point problems on its own.
The main problem with it I can see is simply grounding the characters in the scene. You may want to deepen and sharpen the shadows under the character's feet/paws. Also, you may want to paint in some hint of why the characters appear (via cell-shading) to be lit frontally.
The weapon looks impressively pointy, and all the characters look very alert and slightly stressed at whatever's out there. Great job creating tension.
yeah, you're spot on with grounding the characters more in the scene. I didn't really work on this in a normal fashion, it's basically a background painting, and then the characters are on their own layer. I should have just approached it like I do normal comic coloring so that it was more cohesive.
